Snoopy Wisdom |
If your awareness comes knocking, will you hear it and will
you take heed of it's call?
When a friend of mine was very young, barely seven years
old, the mystery of being jumped out right in front of him and looked
him straight in the face. This moment of crisis; this merging into 'being,' was
so utterly riveting and compelling that 'rediscovering it' shaped and molded
his life for the next three decades.
Once
one has tasted the 'truth', (for
want of a better word) there is no turning away from it. Truth follows you like
a shadow. It will never leave your side. It will pull at your shirt sleeves, it
will invade and permeate every single aspect of your waking life...
For him, there was never any choice in the matter of 'what
he would do in life.' He did not sit down and think things through, make a plan
or decide that he would devote his life to answering what he already 'knew' but
could not name..
There was a burning, inner obsession that led him to push
aside all considerations for comfort, security and ease. None of these things
could have meaning for him unless and until he had made 'truth' his own.
It was almost as though he came into this life genetically
programmed to cross the illusory threshold between the real and the unreal and
he could find no peace until he had solved the riddle of his own existence once
and for all.
This cannot be achieved through book learning. This is not the
outcome of a 10 day course or a retreat weekend.
To gain everything, one must
be prepared to give up everything, absolutely everything...
But this need not be taken 'literally;' the true renunciation
happens in the mind. This may reflect itself in one’s external life, but
ultimately the only renunciation that will lead to freedom is the
letting go of thoughts, concepts and preconceptions, the very springboard from
which our samsaric lives evolve…
Not all of us feel ready or able to do that, we don't have
that much motivation, we don't have that sort of deep inner urgency. But even then, 'truth'
is within our reach. It is not the domain of a selected few, but the very
fabric of who and what we are...
The answers to life's greatest mystery are within reach of
every living being and this is in no way an exaggeration.
This is how it is.
One sees a lot of unhappy, mixed up and confused people in
this world. Helping hands may be extended. But of what use is an extended hand
if it is not grasped, if the call is not heard, if the words remain unheeded
and if the sound of the voice of
awareness is left to reverberate like an echo in the darkness...
Truth is simple and truth is near; unimaginably near...
Don't waste the precious moments of this life on things
that don't matter at all.
Open your eyes and more importantly open your heart to
embrace what is Ever Here Now…
